PHOTO TIPS: 3 THINGS YOU SHOULD NEVER FORGET TO DO WHEN EDITING IN LIGHTROOM

1. FIX THE WHITE BALANCE

The first thing you should always do when editing photos is making sure the whites are actually white. Usually even if your eyes can't see any yellow of blue tint in the white, there is still need for fixing. But you can always trust the dropper tool in Lightroom, which is designed to fix any temperature issues. How it works is that you click on something, which appears as a neutral grey in the photo. Then you want to make sure that the R,G,B values are more or less equal. With only a few clicks you will get the perfect white. Below you can see that the image on the left has a slight yellow tint and the one on the right is fixed and has neutral white.

2. STRAIGHTEN YOUR IMAGE

Another thing you always have to keep in mind is that the image has to be straightened. It is very rare that the photos are straight when you are shooting during events or even travelling. The good thing is that in Lightroom it is really easy to straighten the image. Always keep in mind that horizons and for instance lines of buildings need to be straight. Otherwise it will disturb the feeling of the image!

3. FIX LENSE DISTORTION

When taking pictures, keep in mind the perspective distortion, which is wrapping or transforming an object and it's surroundings. The final picture will differ significantly from what the object would look like in real life. You can fix distortions in Lightroom with one click. You just put in information about the lens that you used and what camera you have and Lightroom does the work for you! It is important to do this so that the perspective of the image is right. Below you can see an example of a photo before and after. If you look at the pipes in the top of the image you can see that in the first photo they are slightly curved and in the second they are straight.
