When clicking it you will be lead to a separate page which has filtered all images tagged with the given hashtag. What’s great about it, is that people who do not know about your profile are able to find you, if they search on a hashtag you used for one of your pictures.

How to use hashtags to your advantage?

Well first of all Instagram allows you to use 30 hashtags on each image, so use all of them to make sure you have a higher chance of increasing your engagement. A good way to use hashtags is to identify popular ones that are related to the specific image you want to post. If you for example want to post an image of a plate of food, some relevant hashtags could be #foodjournal, #foodstyle, #foodislife. If you have a smaller amount of followers, use hashtags with less amount of posts. You will be able to see the amount of posts right next to 'most recent'. Choosing hashtags with less amounts of posts will give you a higher chance of being featured in the 'popular posts', which will give you high exposure among Instagrammers interested in your field.

Think of using hashtags this way… You can have the best content in the world, but if no one knows about it what does it matter? Here, hashtags are such a good way to get your content out there.
