5 Tips For a Successful 2018

It's that time of the year where Christmas and New Years are fast approaching. Maybe you still need to do some Christmas shopping, which makes you a bit stressed. However, no matter how much you have going on right now, I think it's safe to say that we are all starting to reflect on the past year. What were our successes? What were our failures? Everyone wants a better year than the last and having some things under control can safe you a lot of unnecessary stress and despair. Below we've put together a few tips on how you can organize and schedule your life better in 2018, to hopefully make you happier and more present in the moment.

#1 Get that calendar... And actually use it

So the first part is easy for a lot of people. They go out and buy a nice calendar and the month of January is filled up with your plans and tasks to complete at work. But after a while you somehow manage to forget all about that entirely new calendar you just got and the pages are left blank. To avoid this, I think you have to be honest with yourself and figure out an alternative way. Maybe it's the format of the calendar that makes it hard to you to continue it.

Some people find it much easier to use the calendar on their laptop. Some people find it way easier to have an app on their phone. Find whichever way feel best for you. Once that is done, a good tip is to immediate write in your calendar when you find out about your plans. We tend to forget if we postpone to write it down. Putting it in your calendar as soon as you know, will lessen the clutter in your head and your can focus on other things instead. Then let your calendar remind you once it is time for the given appointment.

#2 Listen to podcasts on your way to work

Most of us are quite busy and even though we love the thought of reading lots of books and learning new things everyday, it can be hard. Finding the time between work, friends, family, hobbies and some down time can be quite challenging. The commute most of us have to and from work is a great time slot to use for some extra learning. However, it doesn't have to be a hardcore educational podcast it could also be discussions about a topic that really interests you.

It's about using your time more effectively to get the most out of your day and having some time to relax as well.

#3 Invest in your health

This is also something that is often compromised when life gets super busy. And why is that exactly when most of us know what countless studies say about exercise and eating healthy? It's a fact that doing these things on a consistent basis improves your wellbeing, gives you more energy and makes you more productive in your everyday life.

It's not very difficult to do either. If you feel like you don't have the time for a gym membership, take the stairs instead of the elevator, bike to work or find some other way to squeeze in a bit of fitness here and there.

#4 Set a timespan to check emails

A thing many of us are guilty of is constantly checking our emails and feeling like we have to give an instant response. Guess what? This is also super bad for your productivity. You are completely in the zone and getting a lot of things done in a relatively fast pace and 'PLING!' an email pops up on your screen. This is a great distraction and it will take you quite some time to get back into the swing of things, if you didn't already lose your focus for the day.

If this happens everyday then it can quickly turn into a problem. This is why it's a good idea to allow yourself a certain of the day to check and respond to email. A good example could be half an hour in the morning and half an hour late afternoon. Then you can focus on all your tasks in the other time frame.

#5 Remember to take a digital detox

This is easier said than done, but that doesn't mean that it's less important. We are constantly wires to the rest of the world at our fingertips. Because we're always online it's difficult to get a sense of how much it impacts our minds in the day to day life.

Taking a complete break from all things internet can clear your head and make you able to become much more present. Actually it can be quite liberating!

We hope these tips will help you help you on your way to a successful 2018. Have a great one!
